Meet Leah
Leah enjoys working with children (10+), teens, and emerging adults on concerns including depression, anxiety, life stressors, LGBTQ issues, and medical issues/chronic illness. She also enjoys working with caregivers to help them feel confident parenting their unique and wonderful children!
Leah believes treatment should be tailored to each client. She incorporates interventions from Internal Family Systems, motivational interviewing, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. She uses mindfulness-based approaches when appropriate. While she does not provide specific trauma-focused treatment, she is trauma-informed in her approach. Leah offers a strengths-based orientation to therapy and believes in the inherent worth of each person.
Leah has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Macalester College and a Master of Social Work from University of North Carolina Wilmington. She has worked with both youth and adults throughout her career. She has worked in areas including LGBTQ issues, reproductive healthcare, disaster response, suicide prevention, and sexual assault victim advocacy, and has provided services to children with high behavioral health needs. Leah is continuously working to unlearn and challenge systems of oppression. She recognizes how systemic injustice shows up in our mental and physical health, and she views healing from a holistic lens.
Recognizing an issue with yourself or your child, and reaching out for help, can be intimidating. Therapy with Leah is a shame-free, collaborative relationship where you can be your authentic self. She invites clients to work at their own pace and take ownership of the process of making positive changes. She honors the challenges that your past and current self have faced, and considers it a privilege to be a resource and guide for you.
